The spring season is fully upon us now! And it's time to take advantage of this warm weather and get out to the beach. Many of us have probably gone digging for clams, but many of us have probably paid for it. But did you know, you can actually do it for free!
The last couple of years of searching have finally brought me to Chiba Port Tower. Here at the beach you can find many people on the weekends digging for clams while the tide is out.
The beach is blocked off with tetrapods in front to keep out strong waves and on either side of the beach is a concrete pier which creates a very safe area for children to play in. Last but not least, the area is not very deep and so people visiting the area do not have to worry about deep water.
After the tide has gone out, people can enjoy digging for a few species of clams. Children, once tired of the activity can venture close to the rocks and find little crustaceans, fish, and even hermit crabs.
Once tired, you can relax on the beach and bathe in the sun to warm up. Or if you prefer, bring a beach tent and take cover in the shade. Bringing a lunch and having a picnic is always fun too!
