1. ホットケーキ → pancakes

In America, some people may understand and/or say "ホットケーキ", but the majority of people will say pancakes.
アメリカでホットケーキという言葉を使ったり理解をする人もいますが、大体の人はパンケーキと言います。

2. アイス → ice cream

アイス is 氷。The sweet flavored cold dessertmade from milk is called ice cream.
アイスは氷です。牛乳から作られる甘くて冷たいデザートはアイスクリームと言います。

3. フライドポテト → French fries

In America, we call them French fries. Among French fries, there are a few other varieties depending on the cut. We call them crinkle cut, curly fries and shoestring fries.
アメリカではフライドポテトのことをフレンチフライと言います。カットの形により呼び方があり、クリンクルカット、カーリーフライ、シューストリングなどがあります。


4. シュークリーム → cream puff

シュークリーム sounds like a wax or oil that is applied to shoes to keep them clean or shiny. Cream puffs are correct word for this food.
シュークリームは靴を清潔に、または光沢を保つために靴に塗布されるワックスやオイルのようなものです。 日本でいうスイーツのシュークリームのことは英語でCream puffsと言います。

5. グミ → gummy bears

Unfortunately グミ will not be understood in America. For all グミ snacks, we call them gummy bears, even though they are not all bears.
残念ながらアメリカでグミと言っても理解されません。お菓子のグミのことは全てがクマの形ではないですがgummy bearsと言います。

6. アメリカンドッグ → corn dog

If you asked me about アメリカンドッグ, I would probably say a dog breed. The food is called a corn dog, probably because of the corn flour that is used to make the batter.
アメリカンドッグについて質問されたらおそらく犬の種類？と答えると思います。食べ物のアメリカンドッグは corn dogといいます。おそらく生地を作るためにトウモロコシの粉が使われているからだと思います。

7. パン → bread

パン may be mistaken for the word "frying pan" in the English language. The white fluffy food, we use for toast or sandwiches is called "bread"
パン はおそらく「フライパン」と間違われるでしょう。トーストやサンドイッチに使う白くてふわふわした食べ物を "bread" といいます。

8. マロン → chestnuts

This word, マロン, is a French word. In the States, we call it a chestnut.
マロンはフランス語です。アメリカで栗はchestnutといいます。

There are many words that have been borrowed from other languages and some of them do retain the same meanings. On the other hand, some words have lost meaning or mean something else.
他の言語から借用された単語がたくさんあり、それらの中には同じ意味を保持しているものもあります。一方で、意味が失われたり、別の意味を持つ言葉もあります。
